Calculating GPA for Graduate School

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of applying to graduate school and the whole submitting "your transcript from every undergraduate institution you've ever attended" and calculating the GPA is really confusing me.

I entered a 4 year university as a freshman, but over the summers I took classes from community college to fulfill general ed. requirements. However, I took a few courses at the same community college during high school and got credit for them.

Do the classes I took during HS factor in to my overall undergraduate GPA?

Thank you!

I also had the same situation as yours. Took cc first couple years, took summer classes every summer at diff univ, transfer to different univ, took summer classes at another diff university.

When they ask OVERALL GPA (Self report) without specifying any university, then I put everything totalled together. If they are different (quarter vs semester) all semester I times 1.5x something like this:
[Transfer Students - Quarter/Semester Unit Conversion](<a href=“404: File Not Found - Academic Advising Center | CSUF”>404: File Not Found - Academic Advising Center | CSUF)

When they ask OVERALL GPA FROM XXX COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY then I put the overall GPA from that college/university.

I do not know about AP Classes on HS.
IMO since they are technically college credit classes you might put them in there (therefore putting “high school AP classes” as name) then put GPA. But I would ask the admission guy.

Happy thanksgiving

Thanks for the input! I should call the schools and check just to be sure.

The classes you took during HS factor into your overall undergraduate GPA if those classes were transferred to the school where you earned your undergraduate degree. All classes taken after HS count in your overall GPA, whether those classes were passed and transferred or not.

High school AP classes taken at your high school do not count as college classes. You do not need to send your HS transcript for these. If they show up on a college transcript because you got college classes based on your AP exam scores, that is a different matter, but I would still leave them out of any GPA calculations. They are still high school classes. CC classes that you took at a CC as a high school student are still considered COLLEGE classes. As such, you should include them in your college GPA calculations and you should get transcripts from any CC that you took classes at, even if the classes were taken before you actually graduated from high school. Most CCs that allow high school students to take classes are pretty careful to let students know that they are taking classes that will count towards college GPAs. Whether you got transfer credit or not for these classes is irrelevant – they are college classes and you should send transcripts.

Hmm the classes I took during hs are marked as “high school credit only” on my CC transcript. However, my 4 years university shows that I transferred 28 units from CC, which includes the classes that were marked as hs only.
