A reminder, to newer parents, students, and applicants, Smith College has two webcams (two more planned) where you can at least see what the campus looks like, e.g., snow or not, during daylight hours.

One is a view of the road running from up by Admissions, past the Botanical Gardens, towards Sage Hall. The other is focused on Chapin Green(?) and the Student Center.

I personally think they should have a webcam somewhere inside the Student Center...I know of at least one college where students will call their parents with their cell phones and do stuff like model clothes, etc.

It appears that two more webcams have been long planned but never implemented, one showing the boat house from across the pond, the other now to be focused on the new Science Bldg. on Green St.

I personally think they should have a webcam somewhere inside the Student Center}}}}}

That could get interesting. Cell phone call to daughter, Hi hon, how are you and whats going on?
Daughter's reply, oh just studying in the house getting ready for a test tomorrow Dad hmmm, there's a woman in the student center who looks just like you cuddling with some guy!

I think Smithies would be smart enough to adopt a a "no cuddling in front of the webcam" rule unless they were being exhibitionists.}}}}

You havent been to a mall or high school lately. There are video cameras everywhere but that doesnt stop the kids from doing all sorts of things.

Facebook or Live Journal is another interesting study. When my daughter was home, she logged on to Facebook to show me the website and to see if she could find her cousin at his respective college. She did. Ill leave the details out.

Id like to see a cam pointing away from the student center over Chapin Lawn toward the science buildings, library, etc.. That would be a great representation of how beautiful the college and old buildings are.

{{{the feeds from the cameras at the high schools or the malls.}}

Speaking of Malls---for all the future 1st years, be forewarned, if youre still 17 when you start college, as many students are, you have to be with your parents in order to shop at the Holyoke Mall after 5:00 on Fri or Sat until you turn 18 -LOL
