Other Factors:
Denied the RPI medal

By “denied the rpi medal” do you mean that they offered it to you and you refused, or you just didn’t get it?

I applied for it and they denied me.

Usually your high school has to recommend you for the medal in your junior year. I didn’t think you could apply for it.

Yes, I was recommended by my counselor and I was denied by RPI.

Oh wow, I didn’t think they did that. Did you ever find out why they denied it?

MY counselor received an email that said “This student was denied because he may very well not be accepted into RPI”. I was really discouraged after that, but I showed them , I guess. I think it was because of my non-spectactular math grades that I carried over from middle school.

I don’t blame you for being discouraged that sounds so nasty. Did they have your ACT scores by then because a 30 is a good score? Or if your math grades are low that may have affected them. Well I wonder if a student has lower ACT score but high math scores how that would affect them.
Congratulations - at least you are in now.
Another thought - would they do that because of your family’s good income? Nawwww they wouldn’t say you might not be accepted if it was financial related…

I know this thread is old, but for all people still looking at it, the RPI Medalist requires the recipient to be in the top 10% of his or her class. 35/329 is worse than top 10% (by 3 spots so that seems close enough to me) …

Anyone wanna update this? :P

Maybe it would be better if you posted a new thread with your specific questions, you will probably get more responses.

True, thanks Runs!
I sent you a PM, actually. :P
