However this is the first year RPI has EA option, right? No precedent to comment on I suppose.
This is my understanding from a conversation that I had with my daughter’s GC last summer( I could be mistaken). RPI’s EA was an option available only to RPI medalists till the 2019-2020 application cycle. It was almost a perk that they gave these kids to encourage them and they get a fee waiver. They opened up to everyone in the 2020-2021 cycle.
I DMed their admissions account on Instagram, and they said EA decisions would be released Jan 30th at 7PM Eastern in the portal.
I guess the EA isnt realy EA’s either. Nice strategy by RPI as THEY get all their ED’s EA’s and regular applications before they get to make decisions. got their bases covered. MOst schools have decisions of ED or EA bef application deadline on regular.
So many late notifications this year for “EA” where it’s too late to apply elsewhere! Sigh.
The admissions IG account just posted a “countdown” clock saying “5 days 8 hours”
My kid said the portal has a release date listed. At least they set expectations.
They have extended their RD dealine by a day too. I wonder if that really helps this year. Serious students will have gotten apps in. Other schools extended all deadlines by a week. Probably as students waited for testing options.
My daughter just told me that she received an email confirming that decisions are coming on Saturday (1/30) at 7:00 PM EST. 3 days, 3 hours and 30 min, let the countdown begin! Good luck every one!
Does anyones portal page look different? Maybe I didn’t notice it before…
on the right side I see
School of Science
Here at the School of Science, we discover answers to humanity’s most compelling questions, define new fields of study, and invent solutions to global challenges. Moving seamlessly across disciplinary boundaries, we bring together the best of all fields in order to advance the cause of science.
and more helpful links?
I asked my daughter if she noticed any change in the portal. She said that she didn’t notice any and there was always a brief intro to the school of engineering with a link to the school website on the right side of the screen.
I happened to have a screenshot of the portal from late October 2020 when we first submitted the application. The school information (School of Engineering in our case) was also there on the right panel, so I don’t think this is any thing new.
Yes, before it said decision date January 30. Now it is gone and just says the major. There are also new buttons below that say Admissions and Financial Aid. When you press on them though nothing happens.
They set it up to “launch” tomorrow night when they won’t be in the office lol
Available now. Son was deferred to Regular Decision and they’re committing to announcing those on March 6th. Pretty surprised with his stats and other schools he’s gotten into.
Status: Deferred to Regular Decision

OOS - CT (Private School)
Lot’s of AP’s & Honors. Not too many EC’s.
D got in got some merit aid but way too expensive.
My son too got deferred. Extremely surprised!
Gpa 4.3
SAT 1490
Lots of ECs
Great recommendations
Does anyone know of any additional scholarships offered to admitted students, other than the RPI medal? Even with the metal scholarship, it is more expensive than basically all comparable schools.
Yes you are right my D got the Leadership award but still too expensive.
Former medal winner here - RPI will roll any merit aid into the medal scholarship, instead of stacking other scholarships. I will add that RPI changed the trajectory of my life.
I loved my time there. Top companies recruit there. I got a job at Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) with my bachelors. Accenture put colleges into tiers. The top 2 schools for their NYC office at the time were Cornell and RPI (tier 1 schools). At the time, they recruited mostly at tier 1 schools and offered more to graduates from tier 1. I’m not sure if that is still the case, as I don’t work there anymore.
Son was accepted into mechanical engineering with a great scholarship! He’s a double legacy so he’s very familiar with RPI as we would bring him to alumni weekends and he did a summer program there.
Stats: 4.5 GPA, 1550 SAT, 7 APs (6 5s, 1 4), great extracurriculars, and assume great recommendations.
