I wondered why only 50 percent of students get their degree in 4 years and 71 percent ever finish… There are several cases here in my town of people who just were not prepared. I know that Baylor doesn’t have a good academic reputation on this board, but it is actually pretty good. I see some of you who have ACT scores in the 20’s and some of you are pre-med… You are going to have a REALLY hard time. I think you are going to be surprised… That is why many people change their major. I’m not saying you cannot do it, but you are going to have to work REALLY REALLY hard. I think it takes 5 years for many people, especially premed because they change majors. Baylor is a good school. I LOVED it there, but don’t underestimate the academics…

I think Baylor is suffering from the 10% rule automatic admission of the UT system, meaning it is getting the overflow. I agree that it is a good school, but I am not sure it is getting the quality of students that it did 20 years ago.

Baylor is a much tougher school academically than I thought. My D had great stats going in and had been Val at her HS. She had taken 13 AP’s in HS and college courses while in HS. She turned down very selective schools for Baylor and I thought in the back of my mind she would have a fairly easy time of it. I was so wrong. She studies a ton and has to work for her grades. Baylor also has mandatory attendance. If you don’t attend 75 percent of your classes most profs. will fail you, even if you have an A in the class. I am pleasantly surprised with the challenge she is getting thus far. She is in the honors program, so some of her courses may be harder than typical. I hear Spanish at Baylor is extremely challenging. She loves it there though.

Grin. Spanish is one of 2 courses my husband made a B in at Baylor!!! The other one was English. That was 25 years ago. My step-brother also graduated from Baylor with 2 b’s in Spanish and English. Guess what courses my son is taking at the cc??? He is currently taking hsi 2nd semester Spanish as dual credit. He will take Spanish 3 and 4 next year as well as freshman English.
