I just notice on the housing site it says that we have to have renters insurance with
$100,000 liability for any on site housing. Does anyone know anything about this or where
to purchase in SC I am from out of state.

I think this is only is you are not covered under parents homeowners policy, which our D is. We have never bought this to live on campus. We do have renters insurance on our oldest since she lives off campus at her school. On this list I see of stuff to do prior to move in this says you have to have it OR buy it.

Depending on what you are bringing you may want to add some kind of rider to specifically cover computers or other expensive equipment, but I would contact your homeowner carrier to see what you have/need.

As far as I know, the housing part just makes you check that you have it covered on your own or are buying it.

I took out a policy for my son. It only costs about $8/month.

Thanks scmom! You just saved me $128 :D

Thanks everyone much cheaper than I thought!

I vaguely remember having to give a policy number, but I could be wrong.

I got DD a policy from CSI because it covers breakage and theft with only a $25 deductible, rather than $1000 with my homeowner’s policy (which I don’t think will cover breakage at all). To get $100K of liability insurance on top of that was about an extra $30.

My homeowner’s policy will still cover her if something happens that exceeds $100K. For me it is worth $160 or so.

Thanks Scmom. My mom just put me on her policy said was $35
