When do people typically rent the fridge/micro? Is that something Ill be able to rent on move in day, or will it take awhile until Im allowed? How much does it cost, and how do people typically play (I have two roommates and we plan to divide the cost, Im not sure what the easiest way to pay will be)?

And on an unrelated note...what about books? Ive been told its a good idea to wait until the first day of class, which I plan on doing, but will it be difficult to have them delivered? I also dont have a credit card, so I would have to order them through my parents...should I try and obtain my book list now and order them before I leave?

You should have received a letter from the NYU housing about renting the microfridge by now. If you have access to your roomates, they would have received as well and usually you will negotiate wth them about sharing the costs. My D, freshman year did not rent until they were moved in and settled on the cost sharing.

Snapplespice,

Regarding your second question: we were in the same dilemma. While sonny found book lists posted for two of his classes, we were told by advisement not all books posted are always assigned to be read. So you are taking chances by buying before class starts, in case there are any changes or revisions in what is actually assigned to be read.

I went ahead to order books for sonny through an online bookseller, all used books in good condition at a significant discount. All the books are softcover and classics, e.g., for Text and Ideas. So we were taking a chance by ordering ahead of time. I’m going to let sonny wait for beginning of class for the other course books.

My own conclusion is probably to subscribe to the free first year Amazon 2 day prime shipping for college students. You may want to do that and you can get their new and discounted used books in 2 days. However, you probably should set it up with your parents so you can have a credit card on file.

Thank you for the advise, I think I will set up the amazon account (my dad has an account that I use often to buy books, but Ive never used it for school books/textbooks). I dont remember getting any info about renting, but I guess Ill work that out with my roommates. Does anyone know off the top of their head the price?

Snapplespice,
Google NYU IRHC refrigerator rentals. You will then be provided a link for NYU refrigerator rental rates. Sorry I am not able to copy and paste the link on my Ipad. :(
