Is it a good idea to rent "Intro to Computing and Programming with Java + cd" for the class, or should I purchase a copy for future reference?
(I'm hoping someone in CC has taken CSE 8 but not likely)

You might not get the CD if you rent.

You don’t really need the CD. I never used it when I took it, and I think the content on that CD can be found online on the author’s website anyways.

If Simon is teaching that class again, I’m pretty sure you won’t need it.

I think Ord’s teaching it but you can just email him ricko@cs.ucsd.edu

It’s always good to have a copy of your own to leaf through later. I personally never really read the book when I took the class, but afterwords it’s a useful reference when I want to refresh my memory.

Thanks for the opinions, it really helps.

Where can you rent books??

@papibien
there’s a lot of different websites online where you can rent textbooks from, the one i use is chegg.com. but search around, different websites offer the same textbooks at different prices.
