I would say that a PG (I wouldn't call it a 2nd Senior year because you will already have a diploma) year would only be helpful to improving your academic profile for college admissions chances if it is at an equal or better academic school to your current (Pomfret) school.

If you have been underperforming (to your potential) academically and need an additional year of grades to show that you've turned things around this would be a legit case for a PG year at an equivalent or better school.

I take it that athletic recruiting is not a part of the situation, so I won't discuss that right now.

I do encourage you to discuss this with your college placement counselor at your school, though. They would be able to recommend a suitable peer school for PG work.

It might help if you shared your GPA/SAT/ACT stats and college list as you certainly did well enough to graduate from a prominent prep school. Or are you still a senior and afraid that you might not graduate with your class? I reread your original post and now understand that you are currently a senior. Pomfret has PGs, so why not continue there? Are you day or boarding?

I'm currently a junior and am struggling with my classes a little bit. I hope to turn it around in time to get into a good college, im just thinking ahead in case something doesn't turn out and have to resort to taking a Post Grad year or take a year off to save money for college
