Hello,
My daughter is a senior applying to CSU schools. She failed geometry in 9th grade semester 1 with a D. Repeated the same exact geometry class for semester 1 class in the summer at the same school going into 10th grade year and passed with a B. I know she only needs to report the highest grade. However, where does she report the highest grade on the application? Does she put that she got a B in geometry 9th grade semester 1 because the B is now replacing the D for semester 1? ? does she not report 10th grade summer at all since she passed and will now put that she got a B in geometry 9th grade semester 1?
This video should help explain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08yLFqfIeC4
Or this Video See 10:55 mark for Repeat courses.
The video is showing to leave it blank if it was repeated but she cannot save without a grade entered. So she reports the highest grade and does not put that she retook the class in the summer. Just the highest grade which was a B and enter into the fall section when she originally took the class?
She can put the 9th grade D and 10th grade B into the application.
CSU says that it will use the highest grade earned in repeated courses, according to https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/_files/documents/csu-uc-a-g-comparison-matrix.pdf
At the ~35:40 mark, she says if it was the exact same Geometry class, then she replaces the D with the higher grade in the 9th grade spot. She would not show the summer class at all.
This matches to what our long-time College Counselor tells the students I work with.
