Do CSU's care about your one D if you had good good grades in the previous years?

im a junior and got a D in geometry which I will be going to summer school. will it ruin my chance of going to a CSU?

If you go to summer school and retake the Geometry class with a passing grade, then you would apply with the repeat grade on your application and the repeat grade would also be used in your CSU GPA calculation not your D.

If you do not repeat the course, then your D would impact your CSU GPA and also make you ineligible to apply to a CSU since you need a passing grade for the minimum Math requirements of Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2.

Cal states do offer grade validation for Math courses meaning if you do not pass a required Math course with a C- or higher, by taking a higher Math course and passing with a C- or higher will validate the D or F in the previous lower Math course.

I also forgot to state that getting a D 1st semester followed by a passing grade in the 2nd semester of Geometry, will validate the 1st semester D. The D would still be included in your CSU GPA so the best course of action is to still repeat the course during the summer.

@BarbaraCruz: For the UC’s, both the original and repeat grade are reported on the application but the repeat grade is used for the UC GPA calculation.

For the CSU’s, only the repeat grade needs to be reported on the application but the both grades would appear on the HS final transcript which would be sent to the matriculated school.

@BarbaraCruz:

This is the UC’s policy on repeats:

** A student may only repeat a course in which a D or an F was earned. If a C or higher is earned, and if the student repeated the course and earned an A or a B, the higher grade would not be counted.**

Also grade validation is only for Math and Foreign language courses, not for any other a-g courses.
