Do you know anyone who has repeated a grade for prep school? If yes, which grade and did it have a positive or negative influence on the kid?

Bump anyone?

I am thinking about this for my C who turns 14 in the summer. C is an athlete and this will surely help in this arena. I’ve read of people doing this on CC and the consensus seems to be that it’s not unusual (please anyone jump in). Regarding college, if you repeat ninth grade it would not show on transcripts bkz you would have 4 years at the independent school. From a personal standpoint, I’ve read that it is easier to integrate, make friends etc. if entering for 9th grade, you are placed appropriately re: classes so do not have to repeat coursework, 9th grade is easier deliberately bkz the schools know that you need to adjust.

In the end, the big question is how does the independent school view one’s desire to enter as a repeat 9th grader. Is it irrelevant if you have done extremely well in 9th grade already, etc.

Yeah, I have also thought about repeating a grade (10th in my case). I skipped 4th grade so there wouldn’t be a difference in age but the merit of skipping a grade wouldn’t count anymore lol and I feel like it would just be an extra year of spending $$$ on a prep school education when I could just graduate from a public HS a year earlier; any other thoughts???

I’m from the uk, where it is VERY unusual to repeat or skip grades, but as i am not able to go to school in the Us until 11th grade, would it be worth repeating 10th grade?

Its very common for athletes (hockey in particular) many people repeat a year to add another year for them to play sports.
