Hi.
I know that a few people on CC applied as repeat ninth graders.
How does that work?

What do you put on your application, "9th grade"? No explanation required?
And if you get accepted, are you held back one grade? Because I really don't think I'm in a position to do that. My parents pay 25,000 dollars per year to send me to my CURRENT school, so being held back one grade is not only a waste of time, but a colossal waste of money.
I am not going to be "unnaturally old" or anything like that; my birthday is in September, 1994.
Is it better to just apply as a sophmore?
Do a lot of people apply as repeat freshmen?
What are the pros and cons of this?

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

cool :D I'm a september too :D
if you're applying next year for 2010, I suggest you repeat. Less competition for me :D just kidding lol
anyways, from what I can get from the boards, repeat 9th grader does mean that you do 9th grade over again. But then again depending on what school you get accepted to, material might be advanced so that you don't really "learn everything over" but you learn half repeat half (isn't that kind of how it always is when you go up a grade? :P)
and it's been said that there are a lot of repeat students, 94 is a pretty young age. For our grade, assuming you're applying next year, you can go as far as 92 without stirring up shifty eyes (but the majority is 94 or 93)

hope my post helped :D

Wait...
are you applying as a sophmore then?
because you pay a lot for your school as well...
:D

EL OH EL. I got your pm, wow I didn't know
what happened to the old one?
yeah I'm going to apply as a sophomore. my mom would kill me if I said I'd do repeat "ITS A WASTE OF TIME. MY TIME."

kickme-Oh, I just didn't like it anymore. :D
and are you doing basketball?

Does anyone else have ideas for the repeat 9th grade idea?
:)

yeah, but I don't know how many tourneys I can go to =/
WOW SO BANGAWUO :O
I thought you were dead lol

where'd you get accepted to hotchkiss_please? :P

kickme- I pmed you. :]

Does anyone have firsthand experience with the repeat grade applications??

Or if not, if anyone applied as a sophmore, can you tell me how it was any different?
OR if you got accepted?

:D Kay thanks

I applied as a repeat sophomore this year and all the schools said it was completely normal and that they have students do it all the time.
PM me if you need any questions answered!!

Ooph!! Yeah!!
I meant repeat freshman!!!!
My bad!!!

Hi.
It just means that you will be doing another freshman year.

On your app you say Grade: 9th, Applying for: 9th. Unless the application asks for an explanation, you don't need to write anything more. If you think repeating would be a "waste of time", then it obviously isn't necessary for you. If you aren't in a financial position to do something like that, then I don't recommend it, unless the school can offer FA.

Is it better to just apply as a sophmore?: I don't understand why you are asking this... do you WANT to apply as a repeat? If not, why would you?
Do a lot of people apply as repeat freshmen?: It depends on school etc. I applied as a repeat freshman.

What are the pros and cons of this?: Basically, if a student thinks that the grade 9 in their own school isn't going to prepare them for grade 10 in their desired prep school, they will apply for grade 9 in that school. It means that you can catch up on work that you would have missed in grade 9. Cons: As you mentioned it is expensive.

My sister repeated 10th grade, but she doesn't complain that she's just reviewing stuff - and if that were a problem there's no doubt my family would hear about it. She's very critical. Could you try applying for FA?

If you apply as a repeat 9th grader, do you only send in your 9th grade transcript or do they want middle school transcripts also?

When I applied as a repeat 9th grader I sent in my 7th, 8th, and 9th grade transcripts.

Being a September birthday, you are young for your class right? Just turning 14 in the September of 9th grade (just making sure I understand). If that's the case, you are one of the people that they generally recommend repeating due to age. But it's certainly not required.
As far as "repeating" the grade - you might have some of the same humanities - English and History, but math, science and foreign language will likely all be placed based on what you have already done. No need to repeat biology or Geometry.

I'm in eighth grade, and I'm turning 14 in October. I'm going into prep school as a ninth grader. Am I going to be ridiculously young?

You'll be on the younger side, but I'm sure you'll have classmates the same age. And, you'll have some that are as much as 2 years older than you.

I just wanna say
Septembers RULE
I'm on the 13th
you?

I'm on the first :]

Thanks for the advice, everyone.
I will think about it...
I have all summer to think :]

btw Linda, hotchkiss is an 8th grader, for right now at least
I have a friend who's september 11 el oh el
