My Junior year in high school has not been exactly the best, a close friend of mine committed suicide at the beginning of the school year. At first I was fine, but soon I grew depressed and had my own thoughts of suicide, I went to the doctors and psychiatrist for help and was excused from school for a period of time. I ended up missing a total of 71 days of school, about 40% of the school year. Due to being absent a majority of the school year I wasn't able to receive most of the class room material and didn't to well in a most of my classes.

I am intending to transfer to a new public high school next year (my old high school is also a public high school), to start over. I'm still not sure about retention policies in public high schools, but do you think since I missed that many days of school due to illness they would allow me to repeat my Junior year of high school @ a public high school?

Would I need to a doctor's & psychiatrist's note to present it to the new school I will be transferring to? Would I also have to bring the case up to the district office for approval?
