Hey guys,

I've decided to apply to a number of schools as a transfer for next year. I am currently a sophomore, but I wanted to repeat sophomore year and spend 3 more years in college. Do you think this would help or hurt my chances of transferring? Also, how would I convey this info to the colleges?

Thanks in advance.

It means more money for them so I don’t see why the college would care. Is the financial impact of another year of tuition not significant to you? The new college may have different requirements for the same degree so you may wind up having to repeat similar classes anyway.

You don’t get to decide this. The colleges and universities do. Once you are admitted, they will give you a preliminary evaluation of your transferable credits, and will assign you a temporary class status. When you do enroll, the place you attend will finalize your transfer credits, and will determine your class status.

So I couldn’t go “back” to sophomore year if I had enough credits to be a junior? I would think that a school would let me go back if they were willing to accept me (as long as I told them that was what I was doing). If I could actually do that (I’m going to contact the schools about this), would it help my chances? I know that there are significantly more spots open for sophomore transfers.

I mean, you have to graduate. So if you switch your major, mandating you spend another X years in college, I don’t think they’d have a problem with that.
