Report Card and new SAT scores are in...please chance me.

I'm freaking out here because my grades junior year weren't as great as I wanted them to be, and well my SAT score is terrible. Anyway, please chance me or give me any possible advice?

Female
Asian (Indian)
MA
Competitive public high school (sends many to top schools including Ivys)

Cumulative GPA: 3.7 uw...i think. My school doesn't give it out of 4.0, but my average of all three years is a 93 unweighted.

Freshman year: 97 average.
Soph year: 92 average.
Junior year: 91 average.
I'm hoping to get back on track at least the beginning of senior year.

All Honors and/or AP classes.

Rank: 16/300...Top 5%

SAT:
CR-540 (yea, i know...)
M- 660
W- 740 with a 12 on the essay
This was my second time taking it, however, I had many distractions in the room, which caused me to do not as well. I'm most likely going to take again in Oct, but will taking it three times be just as respectable? I'm hoping to get that CR score to a 600+.

ECs Please note that I moved and therefore switched schools after my freshman year. There many seem a slight inconsistency in some activities because of this.

Brown
Tufts
BU
BC
Northeastern
UMass-Amherst
URI.
I understand that right now my SAT is killing me, but like I said, i hope to get that up at least another 100 points or so if possible. I will most likely pursue something in the medical/biology field. THANK YOU!

As of right now, assuming good essays and recs, I would say that you are probably in at Mass-Amherst, URI, Northeastern, and BU. BC and Tufts are moderate reaches but this could change with better SATs. Right now Brown is a mega reach until you get at least 2100+. Good luck!

Chance me please??

bumpage...

Brown - mega-reach
Tufts - reach
BU - in
BC - reach
Northeastern - in
UMass-Amherst - in
URI. - in

In general: Your ECs are very good and have a lot of depth and I think adcoms will really appreciate that. Your GPA and rank are both very good and qualify you for all of your schools, including brown. Your are right in worrying about your SAT, I'm sorry to say. You should definitely take the ACT, and I believe you're going to need some subject tests for Brown\Tufts (not sure though). I'd say go ahead and take it again. If you do better, that just means you studied up and improved, which colleges like to see. It won't hurt you at all.

Brown-Very unlikely unless you pull up the SAT score. That said, brown is a weird school for admissions, so you've got a shot.

Tufts-Probably the second-hardest to get into. It's a reach right now. With a better SAT score you've got a better shot, but it's not impossible even now. Make sure to write a good why Tufts, because Tufts is the classic interest-sensitive school. You've got a pretty strong chance here.

BU-This should be a match for you. With better SAT scores you're basically in , and you have better than 60% chances now.

BC-I don't see this as a reach for you. Probably harder than BU, but still a match.

Northeastern-You should be in here. Maybe a low match. You're very likely to get accepted.

UMass-Amherst-Not familiar with the school.

URI.-Not familiar with the school.

This might be stupid advice, but consider Wake Forest and other SAT-optional schools. Drop the SAT score and your app is golden. (I hope that doesn't sound harsh; I totally recognize that SATs just don't measure everyone's intelligence fairly, and schools like Wake recognize that too).

I agree with the above poster, except I say that BC is definitely still a reach unless you pull up your SAT. Hopefully it will go better for you next time! You should also take the ACT

Thanks.....anyone else?

bumping this up once again...

Seems like you are on the right track. Your critical reading score does not make sense. Maybe you could just prep in this area over the summer. My daughter wouldn't listen to me but just think about it. The SAT's really just ask the same questions, just a different way. So just keep studying that area. Also I think alot of the schools you are looking at also require subtests. You may also want to look at some schools not in the Boston Area. Have you thought about the University of Virginia. First tier and the fact you are female/ out of state / and a minority. Also I think your internship at URI should be of some interest. I don't think you will have to worry about getting into URI seems like you meet their criteria. I look back at what I thought was a nerve racking process 25 yrs. ago. Seems like a cake walk compared to what my daughter just went through. Very stressful yet exciting. Also get your applications in early. Seems like most of my daughters friends who applied early were the one who got money. Well Best Wishes!!!
