report Math1 or Math2 scores?

Hmm.. This November I took:

Math1 - 800
Math2 - 790
Physics - 770

For the universities which only require 2 SAT2s, should I report the 800 Math1 or 790 Math2 (on the application itself I mean, I know the colleges will eventually see all the scores) alongside the Physics score?

Report them all on the app. You don't want any inconsistencies.

But more often than not there're only 2 spaces in the application.. Like brandeis.. Columbia

report Math 2 if you only have two spaces.

Isn't it much harder to get an 800 in Math I than in Math II though?

If you plan to major in science/math related fields, schools prefer to see Math II. Since you are reporting a physics score, I think they would expect to see Math II.

It probably is harder to get 800 on Math I than Math II. But since your major (I am guessing) would be science based; report Math II, 790 is fine.

790 and 800 is not a whole lot of difference. I think it's best to have 2 different subjects. I vote for Math 2 also.

It is not harder to get an 800 in Math 1, it is just that the less mathematically inclined take Math 1, thus there are less perfect scores. A 790 in Math 2 is better than an 800 in Math 1.

^^ agree 790 Math 2 is better...the only reason a higher percentage get 800 on Math 2 is because the field of Math 2 takers is much stronger than the field of Math 1 takers and virtually all of the Math 2 takers have taken the most advanced math courses available to them in high school

Math 1: 0 wrong = 800
Math 2: Up to 8 wrong (?) = 800

I think the 790 in Math 2 is fine, but if you look at the scores of people who have taken both, most times it's the Math 2 score that is higher, primarily because of the generous curve. An 800 on Math 1 is very impressive, but so is a 790 on Math 2. It is harder to get an 800 on Math 1...most people who get an 800 on Math 2 don't even get an 800 on Math 1.

As a point of reference, my daughter, who is most definitely mathematically inclined, scored a 35 on ACT math, a 7 on her IB math test, and a 760 in Math 1.

Don't forget luck. My D who is Math challenge. She often uses terms like "Math is like Greek to me" scored 800 on Math 1.

Report everything. Your application forms will have enough space.

It doesn't have space on Columbia's so I would just submit the top two. I believe they count Math I and Math II as one subject (they're two separate tests however, obviously).

xxJustAMomxx, first of all, Math II isnt 8 wrong, its 8 left in blank. Plus even getting the rest right is very unlikely for someone who isnt mathematically advanced (e.g: Calc AB/BC by Junior year). Mathematically advanced take Math II, and ppl who are less talented, take Math I. Thus, even a 700 in Math II would be better than an 800 in Math I. (Math II even includes vectors and paremetric functions, which is BC material)

Do you guys mean that 790 in math2 is not that impressive since a lot get 800?.. I really wish I had a graphing calculator.. I know this may sound like a lame excuse.. but it could have helped me get one more right answer..

You got a 790 without a graphing calculator, you're a beast! Report the 790 in math II and if there's room for math I report that too.

If there's only room for one, then report the Math II score. If there's room for both, then report them both.

Kowloon, "people who are less talented take Math I"? Maybe so, but as I posted earlier, I think my daughter is a very talented math student, but in her school, Calc is not offered until senior year, so math teachers recommend the students take Math I. That is by no means an indication that someone is "less talented".

However, when students report their SAT 2 scores on this board, many who have taken both get a higher score on Math II than on Math I, because of the generous curve. Sorry about the "8 wrong" part of my answer, but any omissions or wrong answers on Math I will result in a score lower than 800, as opposed to Math II where you can omit as many as 8, or get a few wrong.

Oh, and my daughter got a perfect score on her IB Math vector portfolio.

Thanks.. Since I am planning to take SAT2s in USHistory and Chemistry in January.. Do you guys think that I should retake the Math2 or Physics too? Actually I'm pretty confident in getting 800 in either of them if I prep a little bit harder.. should i retake? if so, which one? the 770 Physics or 790M2?
