report successes after graduation here!

Thanks, all. If he gets his chance to perform, I'll buy the pre-show drinks! Keep letting us know the good news about all our kids.

jasmom, any news for your son with Fuerzabruta? My D heard from one of the guys she knows who is in it and apparently his last show is on Sunday as he has to have surgery, and will be out for 4-5 months. Fingers crossed for your son!

Oh, thanks. New actors have been phased in over the last month (2 female, one male), and new contracts will be out sometime in October. I think he'll get a better idea soon.
I'm hoping the performer in question recovers quickly (and then moves on to an even better opportunity!). The director is apparently expanding the show (in terms of length) so maybe other expansions will occur as well. We appreciate those crossed fingers!

D's first preview for High School Musical 2 is tomorrow night (Halloween!). They then move on to TOTS in Atlanta for the official world premier. D will also be reprising her role at North Shore for their Dec - Jan run of the show. There is a nice article and video on the show on broadwayworld.com.
BTW...the PSU grad mentioned that booked the national tour of Grease is D's boyfriend. 2 working actors...woo hoo!
Nice to hear the good things happening with our kids. Perserverence, faith and belief (and a little luck!). :0)

bdwaymom,
Congrats. My D's first peer mentor from home is in the show with your D and was dance captain for first nat'l tour. My D is at PSU so pm me!!!

bdwaymom:
Great to hear from you. That's fantastic news about your daughter. Give her a break a leg wish from me and I'll let my daughter know. That's a great result that she is working and so is BF! (just not together....) My D's BF is on a tour too. Your D's on her way!!

PS...I just looked at your D's cast list for HSM 2 and lo and behold, my D's friend, P.D.C. is playing Zeke! He went to college with my D and was in her a capella group. P. wrote his own musical song cycle called Suicycle, and my D was his musical director and arranged his songs! Small world. Tell your D to tell P. she knows her. :)

Bdwaymom- that's terrific! Your d must be so excited! Wish I could see it; I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE HS musical! I believe the lead is from NYU - Steinhart. We saw her in Chorus Line. Also, your d's boyfriend will be performing with one of my former students in Grease; he's in ensemble (initials MR). He went to Baldwin-Wallace.
SoozieVT, which tour is your d's bf on? If you don't want to post here, you can PM or email me!
Keep the news COMING!! I love hearing about everyone!!

RossJi, he graduated Tisch this past May. He is on a three month tour of Joe Iconis' new family musical, The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks, which also recently played off Broadway. He gets his Equity card with this tour. He is one of the two leads.

Such a small world where everyone is connected to someone...six degrees of separation? I will def tell D about it and give hellos. If you watch the video D is at the end sitting at a desk with a purple shirt and short dark hair.
Susie...is your D a senior this year?? Don't know if I told you, but our S is a freshman at PSU this year, but not MT :0) We love it up there, so we're thrilled to have 4 more years.

I'll try the site again but was unable to get the video last night, just the article.

Yes, my D is a senior, eek, this year. Hard to imagine. She just turned 20. She'll be pounding the pavement like your D before we know it.

I don't think I knew that your S matriculated at PSU and so that is fun for you and you didn't have to give the school up yet. My niece (also from your area) just graduated from PSU. I was just down in your neck of the woods, in fact.

Give your D our best. I emailed my D with the news and wasn't sure she knew that P. was in the cast too.

These posts are a ray of hope on this discussion board...especially with all of the bad news lately. Keep the good news coming!

Susan, speaking of small worlds. I'm in NYC at the moment with a couple of friends and the one who you 'sort of' know (L) got together with the young man who both your girls know(who was in Rent and Q), after we saw Billy Elliot the other night. He had some very exciting news re: his future, although it's not mine to share here. In addition to that, he introduced L to a friend of his who is also going to be on the Grease tour that several of you have mentioned. :)

We went to see the son of an old family friend who is currently in Spring Awakening last night. Although it isn't one of my favorite shows, I'm a little sad that it is closing. It's a wonderful vehicle for many young actors to get their first professional job. In any case, the reason I mention it is that a swing who is an NYU student was on for Thea and I wondered if this is a friend of your D, Susan. The cast has changed almost entirely since I last saw the show, so many new faces!

Lastly, although my D really doesn't like me talking about her here in detail, I can share that she will soon be on her way back to the UK for another staging of one of the plays she's written. She loves it there, and apparently the feeling is mutual, as this will be her third time working there. She has been incredibly fortunate since she graduated.

Congrats to all you proud parents!

AlwaysAMom, glad to hear you met up with J. I thought for a while he went on the Avenue Q tour but that may be over. But obviously if he has news, you are not at liberty to share it. Maybe my kids know, I don't know.

As far as Spring Awakening, I am pretty sure you might be talking of A.L. She is my D's friend and was a member of her a capella group, NYU N'Harmonics. She got cast in Spring Awakening as ensemble and understudy for Wendla at the end of her freshman year (and by the way to all who are reading, just to show you that you don't have to have a BFA in MT....this girl was in the College of Arts and Sciences and not studying theater or music). It seems that so many of my D's fellow members of her a capella group have been doing well...several to Broadway and on Tour. Actually the boy in Iconis' musical was also in N'Harmonics. Some of her fellow N'Harms members: one just was Sophie in Mamma Mia on Bdway and I think is to be cast as Elphaba understudy in LA/San Fran, one to Glory Days and now as Boq in Wicked on Bdway, one in the Hair cast going to Bdway, several currently on tours, one in Spring Awakening, and those are the ones I can think of at the moment....oh yeah, the boy in High School Musical 2, he was also in the group with her.

Yes, the cast of Spring Awakening has completely changed since I saw the original cast too. My D just performed (live in Boston but also on a CD) with P.S. from the original cast, and she and some others in that cast attended NYU.

But most important of all, it great to hear news of your D, the Tisch graduate one! To be a working actor is fantastic and what we all hope these kids can attain. Moreover, to be staging a play she has WRITTEN is a huge accomplishment. Kudos to her and while she doesn't know me (other than a LONG time ago on CC), please give her my congrats. As I likely mentioned a while back, my D also is into writing shows. She is spending this year writing her own musical which she plans to stage and perform in this spring. To read that your D has taken her show to the UK is very inspiring.

A quickie personal note to mention that I received your thoughtful note and it meant a lot under the circumstances and I have not been able to yet get back to all who have been so thoughtful at this time, but I plan to. I was away for two weeks and this is the busiest time of year for me with my advisees.

here's the link to the article/video. Seems the video can be a bit persnickety to get working.
BWW TV: Disney's HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2: ON STAGE 'FLIPS' for BWW!

Alwaysamom-
So good to hear your great news! That is fabulous!! What a great experience for her!
If her plays show anywhere in the NYC area, be sure to let us know! And SoozieVT, when your d's show comes up, please tell us!!

RossJi...it won't be until spring because she has to write the entire script and songs now and then line people up and so it is something that is spanning most of the school year as it is on top of what you know is already a very full schedule of classes and activities. She is also in a show that is about to start rehearsing.

Would love to hear how your D is enjoying the big time out on tour. I wish I could see her in it!

Hi all-
thought this news was interesting. A Tisch grad (I THINK he graduated; maybe not??) and current star of Fantastiks won The Amazing Race on TV! ($1,000,000; if I only!!!!) At least SOMEONE is doing well in this crummy economy! Didn't know which thread to put it on, but this one seems like a decent fit!

Yes, the New York Times had a story about this today. Nick Spangler and his sister, Starr, won.

NMR- just checked this out. He DID graduate from Tisch; I remember seeing him in Grand Hotel. Had a small part as a bellboy, but he really stood out! He also starred in Bat Boy, but I couldn't get tickets. Heard he was fabulous, though!

There's a discussion on this over in the Parents' Cafe. :) I was happy to see Nick and Starr win, had been rooting for them from the start. They were an excellent team. A million is nice but split two ways and after all the taxes they'll have to pay, it won't be quite that much. They also won several expensive prizes that will be taxed, so while it's still wonderful for them, Uncle Sam is going to profit bigtime.
