alwaysamom,
RossJi could answer better but from what I have read, this is a new tour going out that is non-Equity.

Yes, it is non-equity; d does not have enough equity points yet to get her card, unfortunately! But maybe someday!!

I thought it might be a non-Eq tour. Her number of Equity points don't matter with a non-Eq tour, rossji. In fact, all she'd need to get her card is to be cast in an Equity show, even if she has zero points. That is how most Equity actors get their card. Earning points, particularly for those actors who are NY based, isn't that common anymore, and it can't be done on a tour. In any case, congrats to her. Non-Eq tours are how many/most college aged actors and new grads start their professional careers. It will be a good credit for her resume. I hope she had someone advising her before she signed her contract. Is it Networks doing this tour?

How exciting! Mega-congratulations to your daughter for this opportunity !!!! (Also great to hear that she was able to defer her last semester and get a refund on tuition and housing already paid!)

Congratulations rossji! That is truly wonderful and exciting news; the kind all us parents paying major $'s for tuition like to hear! Glad to hear you won't be losing out on scholarship, etc. either.

Thanks again, all!
Alwaysamom, I know you have to have 40? or so points to get equity, but it IS possible to accumulate over a course of a few shows. She did a show a few years back and received 8 points; it was a limited run. Had she done another 4 shows like that she would have been able to get her card. I can't recall the number of points you need.
The production company is Phoenix Entertainment; she got the specifics over the phone, but the contract isn't arriving until tomorrow. I'm going to look over it VERY CAREFULLYYYY...

rossji, I believe it's 50 creditable weeks at an Equity theatre that's required for the EMC program. I know it's possible to do, it's just that it isn't the way that most actors get their card these days, particularly those who are NY based.

Again, congrats to her. If you'd like a second opinion on contract issues covering salary, per diem amounts, are accomodations paid for?, are there lots of split weeks on the schedule?, etc., just let me know.:)

Terrific news! Huge congrats!

rossji, Congratulations! What terrific news for your daughter! Do you know yet where they tour will be headed? Please post a schedule when you get one! Any chance NYU would still let your daughter graduate in Dec since she is only on semester shy? I know CMU had a guy this past year who was cast in South Pacific and he missed spring semester but they counted that as credit (maybe something like study abroad but study in NYC instead, lol) and let him graduate in May. But in any case it is terrific that she gets to keep her scholarship money! Way to Go!

Rossji,

Congratulations to your daughter - that is such great news! Your daughter and Tisch rock!!!

rossji,

Congrats, and thanks for sharing your wonderful news!!!
Now, will you be touring as well? ;-)

Have to join in on the congrats!!! We are all so excited for D and all of you. Hope she comes through here so we can see her perform!!!

Wow- thanks again, all! You are all so supportive; as Jasmom mentioned before, no one outside the theater world understands how excited our kids get about this. JASMOM, WHAT'S THE NEWS WITH YOUR SON??? Dying to hear!!
Kaysmom, I unabashedly posted the spelling bee website in an earlier post on this thread; it does provide the touring schedule through Jan. only; I do have a hard copy of the rest of the schedule, though. If you tell me what state you're in, I can tell you if it's coming close. (You can send me a PM if that's better) As of now it'll be in 36 states and possibly Canada. Wow - if you can give me info on how to get my d to graduate without going back to school, and save me $25K, I'm all ears...lol!
Mainstage, I WISH I were touring.. gotta make some $ myself as I have daughter #2 going to college next year!
CT Mom - we need to go out soon! Any good shows coming up? BTW, your sons will be able to see the Bee; it's coming to Syracuse and Lowell, MA! I'll call you soon!

Can't wait to tell them that the show is coming through their college towns!! Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rossji, forgive me for being so slow to join the chorus of congratulations to your D on being cast as Olive in a Spelling Bee tour. That's AMAZING! I cannot wait to pass this along to my D, who just moved to NYC to go to school at Tisch/CAP21 a few days ago. She is already psyched about the training she is going to get there, but it always helps to be able to point to kids from the program who are out there making it happen, and Olive is one of my kid's favorite roles ever.

Please continue to post updates to let us know how/what she is doing.

This is so exciting!!!!!!!

rossji, when moving our kid into NYU this past weekend, we parked near the theater where Fuerzabruta is playing and had to navigate around a long line of people waiting outside. It looked so cool; I want to go!

What a coincidence!! I say we all go meet there to see it when Jasmom's son is in it!!!!!!

rossji -- CONGRATS to your D. A 2008 JMU grad is about to embark on the Pajama Game tour with Phoenix (he also was on their China tour of Grease in 2007)... he has had a great time working with the group, I think your D will be happy working with Phoenix!

:)

Just catching up. . .Jasmom, congrats to your son on being selected for Fuerzabruta. I hope he gets his chance to perform. We have seen the show, and it is a WONDERFUL experience, like nothing else. It is the type of thing that my daughter (who is only a hs sophomore) is looking for.
