I was recently assigned rooming in Xavier Hall. I was just wondering about the overall reputation of the dorm. Is it newer or older? Does it have any air conditioning? In general, how far is it from classes?
My daughter lived in Loyola Hall which is part of a four dorm connected building (Claver, Loyola, Xavier, and Fenwick). It looked like the carpeting was brand new last year. We had no gripe with the dorm. It was clean and in good condition. There seemed to be AC in the hallways, but definitely not in the rooms. Bring a fan for the first couple of months. You’ve probably heard all about being on Newton vs. being on Upper. (You’re on Upper). The general feeling is that Upper is better (though many will argue this opinion) - there are more freshmen on Upper and it’s on campus vs. Newton where you have to take a shuttle. One downside to Upper is that it is up, up, upper. You will soon learn why BC is called The Heights. There are a lot of stairs! You can get to class in 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you walk and where your class is. It’ll be fine!
Agree with @3rdXsTheCharm. My D was in Claver last year. The thermostat in the room read 89 when she moved in and she sent pictures as it climbed above 90 through the fall. Among the three in the triple (a regular one not a forced triple) there were 8 fans.
Better than being assigned to the Newton campus.

Better than being assigned to the Newton campus.

That’s a pretty strong statement, especially when it’s not a universally agreed position.
Totally disagree with the “better than being assigned to the Newton campus” statement. Newton kids get very close, upper kids can go the whole year not knowing the kids on their floor. And the food in Stu is far superior to Mac.
Agree with @keepmecruisin on Newton. My D in Claver complained about the Mac food every day after November 1. She barely avoided the Chipotle norovirus. And she spent lots of time on the Newton campus too.
