Request for more Tax documents an indication of acceptance??

In the last 2 weeks we have received requests from 2/3's of the schools d has applied to for more information. Is this an indication that the admission decision has been made and they are putting together a financial package ??

Financial aid departments generally need to have packages ready to include when admissions decisions are made and since they don't know which applicants will be admitted, financial aid departments generally prepare packages for all applicants.

While my d had the same experience and it did turn out that she did get acceptances (let's hope it is true in your D's case too;) ) many parents can also say that this has also happened to their children only to be denied when the final admissions decisions came. Take it as a what it is a request for information, and nothing more. If it turns out to be an admission, it is all good. If it turns out to be a denial, your child would be even more upset as she thought we would be accepted because the school contacted her for FA information.

To piggyback on dntw8up's post, according to the U.S. Department of Education, the application information of at least 30% of all students receiving federal aid must be “verified.” Some schools verifiy all financial aid application information via tax returns, W-2(s), and other forms documenting income and/or assets (Dartmouth asks for verification form all FA applicants).

At many schools students and their families must complete a Federal Verification Worksheet and submit all requested documentation. Federal SEOG, Pell Grants, ACG and SMART Grants, Perkins Loans, and Unsubsidized/Subsidized Stafford Loans will not disburse to your student account until verification is completed.

If changes need to be made to the FAFSA information originally submitted to the Federal Processor, the Financial Aid Office will make those corrections based on tax returns and Verification Worksheet data, and a new federal student record will be created. If that new student record changes your eligibility, you will receive a new financial aid award letter with a message detailing the reason for the change.

All schools that my S applied to, except for those using IDOC, have requested us to send Tax forms, w-2, 1099, et al. as soon as they are available. Those that use IDOC will pull the information off CollegeBoard when they are ready.

Thank you for your responses. Not all of the schools that d applied to have requested information. We sent all the information to the idoc services. The one problem that we seem to run into is that my ex is filing an extension and owns his own business. So we sent the extension plus all his 1099's to the idoc service. The schools that we are being contacted by want his tax returns... which is why I was wondering/wishing :)
