How do I do it, specifically? The Alumni Interviewer Directory only gives me a list of names of CMU alumni in my state. Am I supposed to just look their names up in a phone book?

Also, how important are interviews in the admissions process?

I don't think interviews are a very important part of the admissions process at CMU. Try to focus instead on the essays or other components. I am not sure whether interviews are even considered.

You ought to also be able to get their e-mail address, as that's how I've been contacted by all the people I've interviewed.

Interviews are supposed to be a way for you to learn about CMU without necessarily having to visit the campus. Generally when I interview someone I do a ton more talking than they do, since I'm mostly there for them to ask all the questions they'd want to have answered on a visit to campus.

I do a have a form I'm supposed to fill out and get back to them after an interview, but I have no idea how much weight it carries.

I think you're supposed to contact undergrad admissions and ask for that person's email contact info. Send them an email, give them your name and the name of the person who lives nearest you, and they can then verify you aren't just some stalker trying to hunt down various alumni and hover outside their bedroom window or something.
