Hey ya'll,

I need advice about asking for a letter of recommendation.
My lab instructor for Bio 102 said he'd give me a rec letter, but I don't know what to tell him it will be for. I did well in Bio, received a letter grade of A, and did well in his lab. Got high marks on practicals, always alert, eager to participate, constantly prepared for lab, definitely stood out.

Do I tell him I need it for next summer's internship or research applications? Or can I even go as far as saying I'm saving it for Grad school or Optometry school? Should I tell him to write it up now, and if I need it in the future for summer research, I'll ask him for to with revisions for the specific research program?

Help please! I have NEVER asked a professor for a rec letter in college before.
