Requesting NCSSM Chance

Hello.

I'm thinking about applying to NCSSM this year. I am currently not aware of all the aspects for the application, so I will just list some factors that might help mine look better.

Freshman Unweighted GPA: 4
Freshman Weighted GPA: 5.43, this is because the high school I attend offers AP courses.
Regarding weighted rank (I don't know if rank affects the application), I think I'm first for my year.

For the three APs I took so far, Statistics, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC, I received a 5 on each exam (got scores 2 days ago =P).

Sophomore classes:
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP World History w/ Honors English 2
Calculus 3/Differential Equations

Regarding the SAT, I am averaging around 2150-2200 w/ the blue books.

Volunteering: I did Key Club this year, it was pretty chill and I committed most of my time to tutoring and working at big events. I plan to do key club again this year. Furthermore, I tutored at my school pretty much everyday for 3 months. My total number of hours by the time I apply will be 160.

Leadership positions:
This year: NHD club, one of the founders (I think this part is pretty cool because our school's first year at this competition ended up with us all going to nationals), officer position: Secretary.
Next year: Vice President of NHD and General board for Geography club.

Extra Curricular: I did AMC and Mathcounts every year in middle school. Pretty much made the teams but didn't place very well. We usually placed like 1st in regionals and top 2 at states (1st place last year, but I wasn't on NC's team). On the AMC 10, I made NC honor roll 6th and 7th grade (didn't make AIME). I got around 24s on the AMC 8, always messed up somewhere that costed me the 25. Took part in the NHD competition (history oriented, so do the admission officers care?) and got 1st at regionals, 1st at states, however our team got cut at the national preliminaries.

I don't play an instrument. I played soccer in leagues up until two years ago, but I still enjoy playing w/ friends. During my active years our team won some championships.

Try to be more exact on the application, especially when it comes to winning. NCSSM likes winning, whether that’s the AMC, Science Olympiad, soccer, or NHD. If you won, mention it. If you placed, mention it. Other than that, you seem to have taken an impressive set of classes and extracurriculars. If you continue along that path for this next year, I’m sure that you’ll get in, but I’m not sure that going to NCSSM would be the best for you in your college application process, unless you’re running out of classes at your home school (which is quite possible).
You seem to have a good academic record and set of extracurriculars at your home school; going to NCSSM risks upsetting this. Just something to consider. Apply, while you’re deciding! It’s better to know you have the choice than to assume.

Good luck! I’m also applying this year. I just wish I looked as good as you (:

I am applying for the 2014-2015 academic year at NCSSM as well. If you don’t mind me asking, what county do you live in lazymeister? I’ve heard that NCSSM only chooses two from each county, which could raise or lower the chance of your acceptance. However, with your stats I believe that there’s a high chance that you will be able to make it.
