Hi, I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I have been considering applying to Brown in the future. As of this year, I am taking all GT (Howard County’s equivalent to honors courses due to their lack of AP course availability for 9th and 10th graders) classes, with the exception of a required Tech Ed class), the only offered AP Government class, and a newly offered double GT/AP Chemistry class that is only available at my high school. I had three Bs total and four As as a freshman, but plan to get all As for the remainder of high school. Now to get to the point, I am aware that I want to pursue a career in the science or math field and am attempting to fill my schedule with as many science classes as possible for my junior year. My class list will most likely entail AP English, AP (AB) Calc, World history AP, AP Bio, Independent Research, AP Psychology, and either AP or GT Physics. I have taken French at the highest level offered for two years in middle school and two years in high school, but plan on dropping the language in order to take another science class. I was recently looking over the requirements for Brown, and saw that 3-4 years of a foreign language was ideal. I am worried that dropping the class might jeopardize my chances of getting admitted, but I am wondering if applying myself to rigorous classes in a field I would like to pursue will “make up” for the drop. I have not taken any SAT or AP subject tests as of now so I can not submit my scores for you to judge, but I am confident I will do well. I am involved in extracurricular activities such as the soccer team, the softball team (freshman year), the lacrosse team, and a few clubs if that helps to judge my chances.
