Hello, one of the requirement for me to get financial aid is to show an original document of U.S. citizenship. This requires me to drive all the way to my campus financial aid office and show it in person. This wouldn't be a problem but the deadline is July 15 and I'm won't be settled in yet so it's quite a hassle to drive 4 hours and back just to fulfill this requirement. Is there any other way I can do this? They state that they don't allow photocopies so I'm not sure what other ways there are.

Requirement Info for U.S. Citizenship – Submit In Person with Original Document
The federal government has indicated that the UC Davis Financial Aid Office needs to validate your U.S. citizenship in order to process your request for financial aid.
To satisfy this requirement, please bring the original citizenship document to your Financial Aid Office. Photocopies cannot be accepted.
Valid citizenship documentation includes any one of the following:
Certificate of Citizenship Must have student’s name and application number, certificate number, and the date the certificate was issued.
Certificate of Naturalization Must have student’s name and petition number, certificate number, Alien Registration Number, name of the court (and date) where naturalization occurred.
“Certificate of Birth Abroad” Form FS-545, DS-1350, or FS-240, “Report of Birth Abroad” Must have embossed seal reading “United States of America” and "State Department. "
U.S. Passport
If you are not a U.S. citizen (a Noncitizen National, Permanent Resident, or Other Eligible Noncitizen) and you have this requirement you may have Immigration and Naturalization issues that may need to be resolved. Please contact your Financial Aid Office.

Ask them if the problem is in SSA or USCIS?

i did already through email waiting response, just wondering if anyone here has any info to share

Call them

You may be able to mail them the original (passport or C of C) and have them mail it back. I would only do this if you have a specific person you can FedEX it to, and provide a FedEx mailer for them to mail it back.

You might also ask if there is a place near where you will be, such as another UC financial aid office, a government office, post office, that can verify the original document for them, and then send the certified copies to the financial aid office for you. You’d probably still have to take the original with you when you do show up for college.

Personally, I’d drive the 4 hours and show them the documents. If you lose the documents, they are hard to replace.

If you are a naturalized citizen, the confusion could be at the level of the Social Security Administration. Pop by the closest office if you can, and find out what the state of your records with them are.
