I just finished my first year at Lehigh and congrats to everyone who is starting there soon. I just wanted to put out a PSA of a few things I didn’t know and was surprised by last year. The first thing is that there is a 5x10 program, which I was completely unaware of. Basically it’s required (except athletes) that you attend 5 lectures/discussions within your first 10 weeks at Lehigh. It wasn’t that bad but make sure you complete them or you could be penalized with late registration for spring classes. Also, I didn’t know that all freshman were required to register for an evolution seminar which meets like 4 times where you basically have an advisor and student mentor and complete activities to acclimate you to the school. Also, go to every event that is mandatory during orientation because they do take attendance and they will make you register later so just be aware
@Coll5678 - How kind of you to take the time to come back and give some tips to incoming students. I hope you continue to share your knowledge and experiences on Lehigh CC. Hope you are having a great summer!
Go to the 5x10s with friends. Some can be fun and even educational, but some are just to check off a box, so make sure to be friendly in orientation/prelusion!
The Evolution seminar isn’t fun. No other way to say it. I signed up not knowing anyone in my group, but it turns out I had a class with a few kids there and we’re friendly now. It’s also something to just check a box and isn’t that serious, but if you keep a positive attitude it’ll be fine.
And the orientation events I actually thought were mostly fine. Some was meant to scare you into not drinking or to paint Lehigh as a place full of white male bigots, but it was mostly an enjoyable experience. One of the people I met in orientation and I still talk, but to be truthful I couldn’t pick out anyone else from a crowd.
