Hello, I currently received a lower score than my IB predicted score and am worried about the possibility of being rescinded.

Haha. Stanford 13’er here. Predicted 42, scored 35. Don’t worry about it, I talked to some kid two years ahead of us a while back and he said he failed and they didn’t even blink.

IB and AP scores are only used for placement.

First off…I would almost never predict a 42 for your diploma score…that’s just ridiculous even with the three extra points from TOK/EE. Furthermore, a 32 is still totally respectable.

BTW, Congrats on the acceptance =]

Thank you, it’s just that it’s different from my predicted score.

Oh, I wouldn’t worry about that! If you’re getting A’s/B’s they shouldn’t care. Plus, you’re accepted so you must be doing something right!

But I didn’t get 7s for my final results.

Well just see, won’t we. It’s very rare that they rescind anyone, but that is a bit… big of a difference… Do you have any explanation for it? Like perhaps you were sick or something?

We were the first IB students in our high school. Everything was new and awkward.

Oh, well I guess that’s okay then… Tell stanford that, they’ll understand

Should I wait? Or tell them beforehand?

fail? they didn’t even blink?

Well… If they rescind you then it’ll be too late… If you do it right away they might suspect you’re too desperate or something… frankly I don’t know. Not experienced with this kind of thing, sorry.

Just don’t worry too much I think. If they ask about it, then tell them that, if they don’t show any signs of wanting to rescind you, then I guess it’s okay.

Thanks for your sincere reply. I fully appreciate it:)

l. won. STOP WORRYING! Seriously, you’ll be fine. They don’t care unless you massively failed the IB.

I don’t think they will rescind their intiatial offer. However what is definitely much more probable is that they send you the “concerned” letter, asking you what went wrong and such. They want a brief explanation to your failed score. If you do got a valid reason -> Stanford class of 2013, if you say, oh school was boring so I slacked -> Community College.

They aren’t going to send you a “concerned” letter. Colleges use AP, IB exams are used for course placement, not for admissions. Colleges also know that illness, for example, can cause students to do poorly on IB/AP exams that they were well prepared for.

What matters when it comes to rescission is your final course grades (particularly a string of Cs or any Ds, Fs) and whether you’ve had any suspensions/expulsions/felonies or other legal problems since your acceptance. Those are the type of things that can get your acceptance rescinded.

I’m very sorry if I’m at loss of something that should be basic…But aren’t these IB scores my “final course grades”?

No, your final course grades are the letter grades you received for your IB courses.

There are no letter grades (if what I’m thinking is right, like A, B, Cs…) These are my final IB scores…
