Rescind Chances

Hi, not sure where to post this but here goes. I slacked off my senior and as of now, I have a 2.7 GPA. Freshmen year I had 3.4, as a sophmore 2.9, and as a junior 3.3 I got into Rutgers. I am extremely fearful that Rutgers will rescind my application due to my poor gpa. I have a cumulative D- physics, and one C+ in calculus. Everything else is As and Bs. I am not taking any APs, just three honors and electives. Some say that I slacked off but I didn’t. I tried. I was depressed about other things this whole year. Didn’t socialize or do any sports. I am not sure how to explain it. I just want to know what my options are. I can get a 4.0 or above to get my gpa to 3.0, but thats unrealistic. Should I contact Rutgers? Help please.

Yes, contact Rutgers. Many schools require you to notify them of any grade below a C, and also have gpa requirements for senior year.

It isn’t as if they’re not going to see your final transcript. The question is what they will do about it. If your senior year doesn’t put you at risk, contacting them will set your mind at ease. To the extent they have some leeway then it’s more likely they work with a kid that contacts them early than one that they have never heard a peep from. But like anyone they’re going to want to see that you accept responsibility for this, can explain what you’ve learned from it and what you’ll do so it doesn’t happen again.

There are so many posts from kids asking “what will they do?” and I’ve never understood why they don’t contact the people that actually know, the people in admissions.

Thank you. I am going to call them now.

@alwaysstandup Great. I hope everything works out well with your admission. I strongly suspect it will. But please:
[1] Do your best to finish strong, if only to restore your confidence and
[2] Try to assess how everything went off the rails (so to speak) and see how you can avoid having that happen once you arrive on campus. If you don’t address the root cause now, it will come back to bite you even harder in Piscataway. But if you do address it now, you’ve just made yourself a better student than you would have been without this experience.

@mtown27 Thank you.

@mikemac I have contacted them and this is what they had to say. They told me that there has to be drastic changes to my grades, which there isn’t. The only bad being my Physics Honors class. One more thing they told me was to improve my MP4 as best as possible and that they would be willing to take a look at my final exams, specifically for me.

good to hear. Sounds like things will work out ok.
