I recently got a notification on my portal saying that I am in danger of getting rescinded for getting a 3.5 GPA first semester of high school (even got a C in a class). Should I be majorly concerned? I have near a low 3.7 gpa for the whole school year and based on the past few semesters, my grades haven’t been all that different. Why am I getting this notification? If I were to get a 3.0 or 3.2 SS, am I definitely going to get rescinded?
What are you talking about? Have you been accepted by uofc? If so, you need to keep up with the grades in your fourth year.
Each school has different standards to rescind admission. It’s possible they just want to scare you a little bit so that your grades don’t continue to drop below a 3.5 for second semester. Or it’s possible that earning another C may result in a rescinded offer. Your best bet may be to (politely) call the school/your admissions officer and ask what their expectations are regarding grades and making sure that you can stay in line with those expectations. Some schools will care about the GPA in comparison to the GPA when you were admitted, others would be upset if you got a C/D/F even if all other grades are As.
Easy solution? Don’t get into a situation where you have to worry about second semester grades. You only have one more semester of high school to work hard in. Don’t let one semester ruin an opportunity you’ve been offered.
Oh yeah @artloversplus I was accepted EA my bad for not making that clearer.
@Lagging I have gotten several C’s and B’s before in high school (in AP classes) and they didn’t have a problem with that when they accepted me. I’m just worried now how come they have higher expectations when I’m known based on my record to get bad grades. I’m going to be a humanities major btw.
Of course you have to take it seriously. They likely accept based on a holistic review of your application, but trigger letter to your portal based on grades. Be proactive and contact them immediately. Ask them if you are in danger, and what you need to do.
It’s NOT common to get letters warning you about getting rescinded and you should definitely take it seriously and try to address their concerns. Your best bet is to just ask them what you need to do. Each school is different. If your cumulative is 3.7 it’s not unreasonable for them to expect you to average that for each of your remaining semesters. Does it seem a little excessive to send an email with a 3.5? Maybe, but with a 3.0 or 3.2 I would be surprised if they didn’t get a little more serious or do rescind the offer. They have a waitlist full of people who want to attend and likely will be pulling even better grades than their average to try to convince the school that they’re worth it.
This is really highly unusual. It is even more unusual that they would post it on the portal. Normally, in the rare instances where this happens, they write to the student and the counsellor. I find it hard to believe that they would warn you for a 3.5. Were there other factors?
“I’m just worried now how come they have higher expectations when I’m known based on my record to get bad grades. I’m going to be a humanities major btw.”
At this point they are looking for the upward trend, and not confirmation that you worked hard during one period to show such a trend, and then reverted to a behavior which shows you could have worked harder, but chose not to.
