Rescinded from McGill?

Hi, I recently checked my updated marks for term 4 and my physics mark dropped from an A down to a C+. I had an A for physics when I got accepted and it was one of my top 5. However, physics is the only course that I have a major grade drop. Will I be rescinded from Mcgill because of this? I managed to maintain about the same mark for my other AP courses (A's for most of them)

It somewhat depends on how those letters are converted into percentages on your transcript. If Physics was one of the prerequisite courses for entrance into your program (i.e., Engineering) I would be fairly nervous. Likewise if this drop puts your average across your top 5 below 80 percent.

That said, rescinded offers from McGill are rare. It’s not a decision that people like to make readily. I’ve heard two somewhat conflicting stories, one from a McGill representative who said that in the year before I applied, only one student out of all undergrad applicants had their conditional offer rescinded after final marks. The other came from a friend, who insisted that their friend lost their offer after their average dropped below 80.

in a similar situation, one class dropped majorly but overall average in top 5 only dropped three percent

They don’t rescind for a single class. Really, it would be an administrative hassle if they did.

Oh alright, thanks. I was under the impression that they’d rescind for single courses but if my overall top 5 average dropped roughly 3 percent, my offer wouldn’t be rescinded?

People have dropped 10% and not got rescinded afaik. Honestly it would be hard for you to actually find someone who got their offer rescinded. I mean even if you google it, I doubt there’s anyone on any forum. That’s how rare it is.

10% in average or single course?

Seen both atleast once. I think the only faculty that might ever consider rescinding is Law since they have wait lists all the way till August. Should be fine for all the rest. Keep in mind that already some of the people who accepted their offer may not turn up. Add to that, if they start rescinding for just 3%, what do you think is going to happen?
