I was predicted a 39/45 for my IB diploma program. I don’t think I will actually get more than a score in the low 30’s though! My GPA has remained fairly good though, it dropped a bit but is still around an A- average…

Do you think this is a drop big enough to be rescinded?

Is it true that IB scores are just for placement in classes?

I saw this on the Brown website…

My final grades are exam results that will not be available until the end of my
secondary school studieshow does that affect my application to Brown?
When final examination results are not available until after our admission decisions are
made (e.g., British A-Levels), we rely on the predicted results as provided by your school
officials and on any other academic credentials that are already available. We trust that
your actual examination results will reasonably match the predicted outcomes, and we do
review those results with care. We must reserve the right to rescind an offer of admission
in the event that actual results do not meet the predictions.

I very very much doubt that you would be rescinded.
There’s a few threads on the subject, though I haven’t seen anything regarding IB specifically. It is extremely rare to get rescinded if you were an ED admit, still pretty rare to get rescinded for RD, and not at all common to get remedial summer work from Brown, although I’ve seen a few anecdotes of the last bit. Search through the Brown threads, you’ll find first-hand posts of people’s experiences regarding low senior grades.

Are you obligated to report your exam scores to your college? I know that you do not have to report AP scores, and my daughter, a current soph at Brown, did not report her AP scores. If you don’t have to report them, then don’t, if you prefer. My feeling is that colleges look at your final record from your school, which, if what you say above is correct, will be fine. The IB will not have any idea which college you are going to, and you can perhaps find out from the IB coordinator in your school if the HS reports the IB scores. In any event, the scores won’t come in until mid-summer, so that will be long after your final transcript has been sent to Brown. I suggest that you can rest easy.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if your overall IB score is good but you get, say, a 2 in one subject that does not relate to your intended major is THAT grounds for rescinding?

A. It’s really old.
B. As a former IBer, you don’t even get your score until August or later. Too late to rescind you at that point unless you’ve done something incredibly egregious (i.e. a felony).
C. Brown will never, ever see your ACTUAL test scores (to any lurkers who’re worried). They don’t matter in the US. Ever. Except for pride, and in SOME schools, credit (not Brown, except abstractly with placement).

As another former IBer, I concur that your actual IB scores are thoroughly meaningless, unless you want credit. They’re mostly just for bragging (41 baby!!!).

IB scores actually CAN be used for real credit at Brown, unlike AP scores. There are some other threads about that.

Unless your school does not grade you on any other basis, IB predicted score is not generally used as an admissions factor by American unis. I’m not sure where you got that from what I wrote.
