Research as Freshman??

I'm really interested in becoming involved in research at Berkeley and I know there will be sooo many opportunities. But... Are there any opportunities for Freshmen in their 1st semester? Or should I wait for 2nd semester, etc.?

I know that students can get involved in URAP but that's not paid, right? If I'm a work-study student, how can I get paid AND do research?

Any advice/ answers will be greatly appreciated.

bump…!!

It’s pretty straight forward to start doing research as a freshman (you just have to email professors that match your research interests), but it’s not easy to be paid, at least right away. Most professors will want you to work with them for some amount of time (something like a year) before you start being paid.
