I have been admitted to Pomona College to start in the fall and I was wondering if I could do anything with the school beforehand. I was wondering if it was possible to email professors if they need help with any research during the summer before I actually start college. I wanted to know if that was a thing, doing research before actually becoming a full-time student. I committed and put my deposit in already.
Congrats on your acceptance! Unfortunately, I think the answer is No. My D had a summer research plan worked out with a professor but told me she still had to submit a SURP (Summer Undergraduate Research Program) application and get it approved by the school (i.e. the professor’s agreeing to take her on wasn’t enough).
Applications were due in February and decisions were released in March and you had 2 weeks to accept if your application was one of the ones approved. This is for research that is funded by the school and this is just my understanding based on how my D explained it to me.
