Research Funding Hits Record Breaking $620 Million

“Jay Walsh, vice president for research, notes the role that talent and collaboration have played in this advance. “Northwestern’s research enterprise has grown impressively in recent years due to the ingenuity, hard work, and perseverance of our faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows, and staff,” he says. “The level of investment in the University’s discovery is just one sign, but a powerful one, that our researchers continue to create high-impact knowledge with the potential to transform diverse disciplines.””

Really nice seeing a greater emphasis on research. Might help lure a few students away from MIT and CMU.

And now they’re breaking ground on the new residence hall (as well as the new athletics center).

NU will be getting rid of Bobb, McCulloch, and Sargent and building a new dorm North campus by Kemper.

They are doing some very nice renovations right now, but the whole campus is like a never-ending construction site…

^ Whatsoever that is true.

@TheMagicMarker Very true. It’s annoying. It’s as if it will be permanently under construction because as soon as one thing is done, they want to add something else. Once the lake front facility is done, they will be demolishing the old area by Ryan Field and use it probably for better facilities over there as well.

@CaliCash I have heard tell of a time when it was possible to walk around the lake unimpeded by construction, alas this was even before they started the new business school building… before that, they were moving the soccer stadium a little bit to the north in order to make room for the building itself… =D>

Yay that they are getting rid of Bobb, McCulloch and Sargent! Long overdue. Those places were pits when I was there 30 years ago. They’re awful.

And thank goodness they tore down Peanut Row. My H and S were both in a Peanut Row fraternity. Their house was just disgusting and shameful.

NU housing is a point of weakness compared to peer colleges, IMO. Glad it’s being upped.

Another infrastructure mailer, this time on sustainability.

Ahhh, I recall the “Bob Newhart” game at Bobb…30+ years ago. Sad to see it go…
