I am interested in conducting research in mathematics (one reason being I don't have access to a lab). I live about 1.5 hours from Boston, and someone suggested that I find a mentor there, work on my project at my house, and on the weekends drive down and have the professor look at it / sign off on papers. Do you think this is plausible? If so, which colleges would most likely have a professor willing to work with a high school student (senior).

Thanks for your help.

i dont know about that... 1.5 hours is a lot of time. do you live near any local colleges? what i did was take a free college class paid for by the college since my high school is on campus. it was Math from an Algorithmic standpoint, and we used Mathematica (programming language) to conduct research, write papers and make proofs etc. i recommend it, you can register of the wolfram website, and even then if you can find a professor online you could email him/her with your questions and progress
ok what i wrote doesnt seem very full of advice... sorry lol. good luck working everything out
