I'm trying to finish the writing supplement for the University of Pennsylvania and it's mostly going well. I've talked about why I want to major in what I want to major in (which is what I guessed they meant by academic opportunities,) and the community service programs they run that are of interest to me.

The thing I don't really get though, is how someone that isn't majoring in a science can talk about the research opportunities at Penn. I've searched upenn.edu and all its subsidiary websites; they've been helpful and confusing all at once. There is a page on the department website that talks about the research the professors do, but isn't it just that? (Research the professors are doing, not necessarily undergraduates I mean.)

It also says there are lots of publication opportunities for undergraduate research, but you would have had to researched something for it to be published so yeah...

Basically, if anybody majoring in, say, English Literature at Penn has any experience with what is meant by "research" at this college, I would really appreciate if you shed some light on this.
