Research Project in Admissions

Hello! I am participating in an independent research project with a professor at Caltech about applied chemistry. Our research paper won’t be published by ED deadlines, but will most likely be published by RD dates. This is a really important aspect of my resume.

I was planning to apply to Duke ED, but would it be better to wait until the paper is published? Thank you!!

Other info:
Majoring in Biochemistry and minor in environmental studies
1540 SAT
4.0 UW and 4.67 W GPA
Varsity Tennis and other leadership positions in clubs
Research internship at biochem lab

If it will be published by the RD deadline, then the publication date will be known by the ED deadline. With a known publication date, you can still list the date.

If you are applying to a school that will give you a significant boost for admission by applying ED I would apply with the paper listed as under review and make sure you outline your personal contributions to the research and discussion portion of the paper. I would assume this paper is under review for publication in a high impact peer reviewed journal. Have you gotten the green light from the reviewers? If yes, no need to wait for publication date which can be much later. Good luck and congratulations on your accomplishments.

Has it been accepted for publication? If so, then you can put it on your resume as “In Press”, and it is considered a peer-reviewed publication, even if it has not yet been published. If it is still in review, then do not wait, since there is no guarantee that it will be published or accepted for publication before the RD deadline either. In that case, do as @teleia wrote - put it as “under review”. It will not be considered a publication, though.
