Research Projects and Experience

Hello everyone-
I just made my college confidential account, and this is my first post, although I have been reading this site for a while. I have found it very helpful so far, but I cannot find any advice about where to list research projects. Every year since middle school, I have entered science fairs with a computer science project that I did annually. These began as rather simple projects and evolved into fairly high level research projects. I wanted to list the names and awards for each of them, as I feel that these are what I spent a great deal of time on all throughout my high school career and should separate me from others, since I have real experience doing independent research. However, I see no place to conveniently list them. The Common Application has space for ten extracurriculars, and I would hate to tie up 5 spots with these when I am also involved in other activities that I feel deserve some mention. I could always put my resume that goes into great detail into the Additional Information section, but I am hesitant to do this because some schools make it clear they do not want anything extra sent.

TL;DR: Where should I mention research projects for science fairs and their awards in the CommonApp?

Thank you all so much for your help!

bump, still haven’t figured this out

anyone have any ideas?

The additional information section is absolutely appropriate for this. You are right that many schools don’t want you to send extras, but that means sending more than what fits in the space permitted in the application. Using the 650 words allowed in the additional information section is not a problem at all and adcoms will be delighted to read about your research projects there.

If these projects are detailed in a resume, it would be appropriate to send a resume to most schools.
