Research Science Institute 2006

umm it varies but like 2nd or 3rd singles, or 1st or second doubles

im also captain =D,

yeah that was random

All those Indian tennis players....

do any of you play cricket?

Ricklets! hehehe.... you did indeed type that "out loud" :-P

i know umar played cricket with some mit guys

I was wondering if recommendations for RSI had to be strictly from math and science teachers. i know this was discussed a few posts back, but i couldnt find a definite answer. I have a biology teacher that I am planning on asking, but then I have a feeling that my english teacher would be able to write me a MUCH more effective rec, as he has known me for awhile and seen me do a lot, whereas my math teacher has only had me for half a year so far.

There was a discussion about recs earlier in the thread, and we determined that both recs had to be from teachers in math/science subjects (I believe that it says as much right on the teacher rec form).

Is RSI binding?

eh... why would you not go if you got in??

Well, two people who got in this year decided not to go, and there's an RSI waitlist...

So no, RSI is not binding (although I really really don't suggest missing it if you do get it).

why would you get an english rec??
its a science program... im sure theyre very concerned with your english ability

It's not that I wouldn't want to go to RSI. But I'm definitely applying to Governor's School as well, and it's binding in New Jersey. So if I get into both Governor's School AND RSI, I'll have to go to Governor's School.

hey, i'm a freshman at Andover (phillips academy andover).
well, it looks like i will have a lot going on my junior year, so i was wondering, does RSI accept freshman applications too?
I'm taking BC Calc and AP Physics C, and I'm getting 94 in math and 103 in physics. (my physics teacher thinks i'm a very creative thinker, which i'm not. i just memorize the formulas and plug them in)
Also, i got 210 in PSAT (76 math, 60 something CR, and 60 something writing) and i expect about 220-230 this year (80 in math, i hope)
I know RSI is one of the most prestigious science summer camps in US (or the world), but do they even accept the applications from freshmen?

not unless you're going to graduate next year, or finish high school next year... kim, is that right?

btw. what is andover? i think i've heard of it before. in conjuction with... exector or something?

Well...guys...tried to get tsr472 to post, but he says he doesn't want to get "addicted".....

that or hes too busy cutting himself

i bet it's cause he's just bitter he can't use his emo fonts on here.

:) love you derrick!!!!

my perception was that recs are beneficial because teachers can give insight into your character not just your ability to perform well in the subject and my english teacher would be able to do a better job of that because he knows me better, which is why i wanted an english rec. my math teacher, on the other hand, can say the same stuff but perhaps on a more superficial level because she has not known me for the same period of time or nearly as well.

but yes, it does make sense that such a dominant math and science program would want only math and science recs

Does anyone know if RSI accepts Math IIC scores instead of PSATs?

Im going to be getting a rec from my chemistry teacher who i have for the second year now. The problem is that im not really sure about my second rec. Im thinking about asking my debate coach to give it to me, cuz he will basically write a really good rec about my leadership skills and he knows about all of the other stuff that i do. Do you think that i should get my second rec from him or another math and science teacher.
