I don't think so...

How long did you 04/05'ers spend on your RSI essays(editing/prewriting, etc.)??? I have already started baby!!! Also, is the PSAT the primary/ common stat and guideline they use to measure applicants' aptitudes in math/science?

Hmm, I also find it odd that the applicant numbers to RSI have stayed constant at about 1700/1800 for the last couple of years. Is it just me, or does someone else get the feeling that the applicant rates are about to explode and we may be looking at about 5000-10000 people vying for candidacy at RSI???

A long time. And it's maybe not the primary guideline (the PSAT), but they probably use it since it's one test they're sure everyone has taken.

Sweet, cuz I f***d up SAT math pretty bad(~700ish) but I think I secured an 80M and like a 220-230 overall on the PSAT.

dear lord, already? wow. i started mine three weeks before the deadline, and didn't get around to seriously writing them until the week before (though i came up with my ideas beforehand). however, the essays were pretty straightforward and easy to write (nothing like the soul-baring college essays - practically fleshed-out lists or outlines), so i'm sure i'm not the only rickoid who did that - anybody else?

Would getting 800's on Math IIC, Physics, and Chem kind of be like 5's on AP? I am taking AP Chem this year and I was wondering if getting an 800 shows mastery of the subject. Also, does getting an 800 on Physics make up for getting a 3 on Physics C sophomore year?

yepyep, i feel ya stephie... i spent about a day on mine... actually, i spent the morning prewriting, afternoon typing everything up, and editing (MAJORLY cutting it down) at night, because i was >2 pages over the 3 page limit.

i think thats the charm... because i'm reworking and reworking my college essays and they just seem to get worse and worse... my eyes are like bleeding now...

listen to coldplay, everyone at rsi loved coldplay

and hava nagila....

and the backstreet boys lol

Um...was there anyone at rsi that didn't have that many test scores but instead had really cool extracurriculars? I have a feeling I'm not getting in. The one test I took last year was bio and I only got a 720. My only real strong points are working under an MIT professor last summer, being a pilot, and captaining academic decathlon....

Ugh I wish my school wasn't so dumb.

Hm... I didn't have that many either... I had one SAT II (in math, although bio was my research topic) when I applied. I think showing that you made the most of what you had (by looking for outside reach, exploring your interesting, participating in school academic activities, etc.) will make a big difference. Scores and numbers only count for so much.

Yay! RSI has 24 Siemens semifinalists this year!

Congrats to Zach, Aditi, Andrew, ZeNan, Cindy, Shiv, Brett, Daniel, Lisa, Derick, Vinayak, Jeff, Michael, Nimish, Raj, Ian, Kim, Charles, Sally, Toan, Genevieve, and Luyi!

I'm not quite sure why I'm a semifinalist... not that I'm going to argue with it. Please know, though, that while we're very proud of the number of rickoids who are named in competitions, they are ultimately still just competitions - many other students at RSI did equally amazing research (and in a few cases I'm particularly staggered that they aren't semifinalists).

well, not everyone submitted.

24 out of ~50 US rickoids making it... not bad, not bad :)

bluemuffin, don't worry, i got 740 on bio and my school is a jock school, but i made it.

Random person, those that didn't make it @ SW sometimes make it straight into Top 10 at INTEL STS like Pooja. Each competition has different criteria.

Yes, that's what I was saying - many of the people who don't make Siemens have ridiculously amazing research projects, and do very well in subsequent contests.

By the way, does anyone know if Ameya submitted his project to Siemens? It seemed really awesome when he presented it at RSI - if he did submit it, it's very strange that they didn't make him a semifinalist (although this is to some extent an arbitrary contest, and enormous mistakes are probably made).

Yeah, ameya's was so awesome, I just remembered! Hmm...

And nghi, I don't think Pooja was top 10 at STS, just top 40...

hey, everyone!
So question #1 asks "What are your long-term goals?" Does this mean career goals, research goals, high school/college goals...? Is it too myopic to not look past college? Thanks

I put career goals.
