RSI Internationals

Thanks, privatecitizen. I'll go talk to my guidance counselor about it tomorrow; I'm not quite sure what they're policy is- I've had to ask for transcripts before, and they always make the point of saying that they can't give me an "official" one, but it looks different each time (e.g. whether or not it lists g.p.a., whether or not they seal it). My school isn't big on the whole organization thing. As long as it's enough for CEE to process it for the time being, though- that was my biggest concern.

Good luck to everyone -- remember, even if you don't get accepted to RSI, you can seek out research opportunities locally. Look online at a local college/university and see who's studying something you're interested in. Drop them a line.

The vast majority of kids who get to Siemens and Intel did not do RSI -- there are plenty of other fine programs and internships available. I've heard elsewhere (maybe even further back on this thread) that there were four Rickoids among this year's 40 Intel finalists.

If you are motivated enough to go through the RSI application process, you obviously have the credentials and drive to achieve. Take the stuff you prepared for RSI and use it as the basis for looking into other opportunties.

BTDT Parent

u need to be at least permanent resident by the time of attendance in the program... if u get in (i'm not any yet, but im applying... i emailed them and they told me i can apply, but must become PR when the time for RSI comes... again, if i get in lol).

ooo jeez, i'm applying for ssp and rsi, so i gave both of the recommendation forms to my math teacher. i told him i needed the rsi one first, so he gave it to me later that day. today, i received the ssp one, but the problem is i found the rsi form in there also...so i have no clue what i mailed in with the rest of my application...i'm gonna email CEE and tell them i'm gonna mail this one.

is there anything in particular i should say in the email or anything i should do? i'm just afraid that the letter i sent in was for ssp, and that probably wouldn't be good lol

I'm sure it won't matter if they got the wrong rec. They know RSI applicants are applying to other programs. Just send them an email telling them what happened and send the right one.

lol thanks. i just sent the email, and i'm kinda relieved that you said that lol

Just sent mine in today... overnight shipping please come through!

Good luck to everybody that applied.

i can't believe this.
both my teachers have been swamped, and aren't done with the recs!
and i gave it to them two weeks ago!
i'll have it tomorrow... but i hope it won't get there too late.
what should i do?

yay mine is on its way! :D

@ vp: overnight if in doubt. overnight fees<<< 6% admissions*10k summer program

Ya VP --- if you get them during school tomorrow, I personally would just skip a class/half a day and go send it out before the 12 or 3 or whatever deadline your mail service is for overnight, that way you can get it there by Thursday.

Excuse me if this was previously asked/answered as I was not able to find it.

Is the three page type-written limit including essays 5,6,7,8? Is essay 8 supposed to be in depth at all or just "internet" ?

Also, are we supposed to use the provided check boxes to list courses and technical skills, or do we write them in paragraph form?

Your reply is appreciated.

yes, the 3 page limit is for the entirety of part II.

essay 8 may be "just 'internet.'" just answer the question.

check boxes are fine; they are there for a reason.

thanks DMRenrel and herman!

I'll send it priority/overnight for sure tomorrow.

Is question seven the chart of course/skill level, or are those two separate (but space-wastingly similar) entities?

Question 7 and the "check box" box have been on the application for over a decade (although they seem to have updated the "skills" of interest this year), so who knows what the original intention was.

Most applicants write "see application sheet" for #7 and treat them as the same thing. I don't think you need to add much unless you want to explain how you acquired the skills and applied them in the past. I've heard that the skills self-assessment has little influence over selection.

The primary purpose of question 7 / check box is to ensure a good match between you and your lab. Some labs have the time and resources to coach you in, say, MATLAB, while others don't. In some labs, you'll write a ton of Perl scripts, and in others you won't. Try to be accurate (or even a little conservative) so that you don't have to cram skills before you can start your project.
