Research Science Institute (RSI) 2009

off topic

im curious, a few friends at my school who took the january SAT got higher scores than expected, by a couple hundred. anyone else notice that pattern at their school? like could it have been an easy test?

not really.
so how are you guys sending ur new SAT scores to RSI? are you gonna mail them a copy once you receive the scores in the mail? or email them?
what else r u all sending?
would AIME qualifier/school winner be good?
would it be alright to send them new info through email?
thanks

I emailed them and they said to send a photocopy of the scores by mail.

bump. so does anyone know how to report extra info to RSI? such as: AIME qualifier, AMC 12 school winner, school transcript (since 1st semester reports came out after I sent my rsi app)? I think I should mail them the transcripts and new SAT scores, but how bout the other info? should I email them? thanks to whomever replies!

^I'd include an update letter with the transcripts and test scores.

Alright thanks, sounds good.

I need some advice. I just got a 2350 on my sat, but only a 760 on math. Would it be better if I don't let them know? I got straight 77s on the PSAT.

^yes, that's horrible. please spare yourself the shame! :/

lolwut only a 760??!1

sorry guys, I didn't mean to come off like that... I guess I was just putting an emphasis on my math score compared to the other two.

Sorry again. next time i'll write with more discretion.

@tjones

if you really wanted to update them on the information, i would email him first and tell in the email what you got and if they would like you to mail confirmation. i think (not from experience, just guessing) that their main focus isnt that you got straight As, or uber high SAT scores but just that you showed them enough potential to reap the benefits of their program and that in the questions you explain your passions and how you would try to use the program to the fullest.

@velleity

don't feel the need to hide your score because you think 760 is low and others dont. i agree, i mean i got 750, but i think they would understand that we get these scores by missing what, 1 or 2 out of the total number of questions. they just want to know that you are capable of research and learning etc.

don't worry about it man. people have different standards then you and then feel that you are bragging when you don't meet your expectations but still exceed theirs. There are always those who put it poorly, but I wouldn't say you did so. 2350 is a great score even with a slightly lower math. You should definitely send it in.

Decisions come out in mid-march right?

And I noticed that on the website, it now says that an application must include ALL standardized test scores. If I didn't give my psat scores, will I automatically be disqualified?

Does anyone actually think they got in?

First Semester at my school ended after the application due date. My class rank went up from 13 to 2, and I ended up getting all A's with a 5.0 gpa. Is this worth updating them on, since my second semester sophomore year was a 4.5?

Will you be in a disadvantage if you have not taken the SAT and therefore don't have any SAT score to report before the decision date?

They already made decisions I think. I just got a letter back saying that I was placed as an Alternate. Arggggh....

What? They're supposed to make decisions the week of March 31st.

I thought so too, but I received a letter today as well.

Holy crap.
i got a decision letter today, too.

That's weird

HOOLLLY ****!! ACCEPTED!!!!!

w00t!!! Got my acceptance letter today! :)
Definitely wasn't expecting to see any mail about RSI today.

Haven't posted here before (just sort of been creeping lol) so I guess this in order:

Hello, I'm Capo from unfortunately [still] freezing cold Michigan.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.
