Can students get involved in research at Tufts during the school year, or do they have to do it in the summer through the summer scholars program?

I think you have to get involved in the summer scholars program... for more information on that go to: http://summerscholars.programs.tufts.edu/

As far as I know Tufts has excellent research opportunities for undergraduates throughour the year and it is very common for undergrads to publish atleast once. As you know publishing your research is very prestigious and give your application dozens of brownie points. Talk to one of your professors who you might be interested in working with and ask them how to get involved at research at your school. I hear the faculty is very helpful and friendly so I'm sure you wont have a problem.

You don't need to be in Summer Scholars to do research. A lot of students do research during the year - and some majors even grant credit for it. I know the engin. course # for research is 91 or something, and there is another one for interning for credit.

My son is a rising sophomore at Tufts and found tons of research opportunities available. As eadams reports, he simply had to ask his professors and several were enthusiastic about working with undergrads on their research projects. Jj chose the one that mirrored his own interests and he's really psyched to begin in the fall. Nope, no shortage of research opportunities. :)

Do you know where I can find some sample publications by Tufts undergrads?

first go there for undergrad areas of study... (as shown on the above link)

then select a department... here i have selected eco...

i then went to the "Research" link.
http://ase.tufts.edu/econ/papers/papers.html

you can then select the paper of your interest... I would imagine that other deparment's webpages have similar functions.... If not at least I provided you with a sample.

i hope that helps.
