Hi....
just trying to think ahead and pick the brains of those parents / students out there ...for a freshman, what are your picks for the diff residence halls. Thinking about the possibility, IF !!my D gets accepted..., of choosing the most reasonable residence hall WITH A KITCHEN or kitchen access so as to try to avoid purchasing a meal plan. (hope this makes sense).

Any suggestions, ideas, etc. are absolutely appreciated.

Thanks in Advance !!

I live in broward, there are kitchens in each wing of every floor (pretty much 80 ppl per wing), but from what I have seen the kitchen is barely ever used.

Baety is apartment style and has 1 kitchen per each apartment (4 suitemates sharing a kitchen)

Beaty Towers is a great place to live in. Each suite has its own kitchen: stove and refrigerator. It has a bathroom where you can share with 3 other people. Let’s say your roommate sleeps before you. Since you do not want to disturb their sleep, you can bring your stuff out of the room and into the “common/kitchen” area.

Every dorm has access to a kitchen somehow.

than again baety is far less social than broward

thers always things to consider

gpowsang

I recommend Broward.

That may be true, but there’s pros and cons to every dorm.

Is Beaty really as small as people make it sound?

^Yes, the common/kitchen areas are TINY. Regardless I think it’s one of the best dorms (even though I don’t live in one lol)

… I mean, could one leave their groceries in a common area kitchen fridge or risk getting it stolen…thats why I’m thinking the 4/2 sounds great with their own kitchen? (to share obviously)…
???

or am I being rediculous to think that.

Not a single thing will be stolen in the common-kitchen area. Heck, I leave my laptop on the table. There’s a door between the hallway and the kitchen area. It maybe tiny, but it should suffice. You can have at most 8-10 people sitting in the tiny common area. I love Beaty because you can bring guests and let them sleep over with enough space, if you bunk the beds.

Get your deposit in asap.

My daughter did not get any of her choices…

What about lakeside? There are four people that share a bathroom, a kitchen, a “common space” and each person has an individual bedroom (a big perk). It is by far the nicest dorm on campus. If your daughter wants to cook I would go with Beaty or Lakeside. I made the mistake of staying in a traditional dorm (with no meal plan) with a communal kitchen for the whole floor. It is extrememly inconvenient to carry everything down to the kitchen, then carry everything back. Plus, when it’s around “dinner” time or “breakfast” time there are other people in the kitchen that want to cook, so you have to share the stove with sometimes three people, but more often then not you have to wait.
