Residence Halls vs. Private Certified Housing

Does anyone know the difference of the cost between these two options? I can't find it on the website.

I know private housing can range from 600 to over a thousand a month (depending on single/double, suite, etc)
RH might be about 400-500ish but don't quote me on that. The information on costs are usually housed deep within each halls website.

I think residence halls with meal plan are roughly $9000 a year? Meanwhile, I know IT is on a semester basis, but I'm not sure of the cost. Slightly more but not incredibly far off.

It appears the 2008 rates haven't been posted yet, but I thought I saw them in my son's admission stuff, but there is no way I'm venturing into his room in an attempt to find it.

[Rates

All of the certified housing is listed here, you might have to click through each property to obtain their rates Private</a> Certified Housing - University of Illinois](<a href="http://www.housing.uiuc.edu/options/rates/index.asp%5DRates%5B/url">http://www.housing.uiuc.edu/options/rates/index.asp)</p>

because of how room & board increases every year, they are starting to become a lot more similar in price now, but u of i dorms are still always a little cheaper. the maximum difference would probably be around $2000 and that would be comparing them to IT

Thank you guys! I think I would choose Residence Halls...so much money a year already...:(

I know my brother stays at Hendrick House and for next year anyway for the food plan he got compared to the comparable one in the residence halls, I think it was just slightly less to stay at HH again. The difference is pretty tiny though.

It's not really a very social dorm though. He's made friends there and stuff, but it sounds like most people keep to themselves and do their own thing. He went in last year because he looked at housing so late and they still had openings, and is going back next year because he's the pickiest eater ever and actually seems to really like the food there. He didn't want to gamble on the food elsewhere. Though he's the sort of person who could find one thing he likes and eat it constantly and never get sick of it, so I have no idea how much he's even tried.

Thanks Seren, Hendrick looks nice to me...hmmm...still need to think...
I really want to get good GPA at least the first year, and I think PCH would be a good choice...

I'm going to be a freshmen at U of I, studying computer science, i was wondering which PCH to stay in. I'm looking at Hendrick, and Illini Towers, but any suggestions? how's Illini Towers? is it close to computer science building?

I have a map on my desk and from looking at it yesterday (from memory... so this may not be accurate) none were particularly close to the engineering campus. Hendrick House is the closest, on the corner of Green and Lincoln, across from ISR. That's just a few blocks from the Siebel Center.
