Hi, I am doing some research about dorms in Illinois and I'm wondering if there is a price difference between University Housing and Private Certified Housing. I would imagine there is but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know?

In general, prices of CPH are higher, but they vary in price. While the prices are higher the accomodations are more spacious with a bathroom much closer to your bed and shared by many fewer people. There is no single sheet that I’m aware of that lays out the price differences, but visiting the various CPH sites will very easily let you obtain prices.

I suggest visiting the CPH’s you’re considering, so you can actually see if it’s worth the difference in price.

I don’t know what the differential is like now, but it was a lot more in the late 80’s, almost twice the amount. All the athletes were housed in Bromley and all the north shore girls were at Illini Tower. Both were mostly suites–two double rooms with their bathrooms, connected by a living room. IT had a kitchen in each suite and both places had maid service. But location was great, especially IT, and parking was available. I lived in both, as well as university housing my first semester and a sorority house. University housing has very tiny rooms that you share, with cinder block walls. Communal bathrooms down the hall and a dining plan downstairs. the six pack was a group of six dorms that was the most social. I was assigned to university housing in Urbana which is great if you want to be near the engineering campus or Krannert art center but otherwise you want to be in Champaign!

You can go to this link which lists all of the Private Certified Housing (PCH) options.
[University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign: Private Certified Housing](http://certified.housing.uiuc.edu/)
I currently live in a triple in Bromley, and the price I pay is cheaper than a double with University Housing. In general, PCH prices are more expensive, but that always isn’t the case. Check out the website and look into the different options that are available.
