Residency

Anyone know what it takes to qualify as a resident for future tuition purposes- My D is going to be a freshmand and for the purposes of this year she is oos. but if I dont claim her as a dependent this year and she gets a 12 month apartment in Indiana after this school year and for intents and purposes lives in IN, obtains an IN drivers lic and reregisters her car there, is that enough?- at what point can she claim instate tution-? thx

She cannot establish residency for tuition purposes while she is attending college. Even if she were able to prove emancipation from you she must be:

physically present in Indiana for twelve consecutive months (prior to the first day of classes) without the predominant purpose of education.

Most states do not allow residency to be aquired by living in the State while going to school. If they did there would be no OOS students other than freshmen.
