hi, what are your opinions/experiences on living with an RA?
I have the opportunity to live with a Resident Assistant that I don't know..
Would it be better to room with an RA that I dont know.. or a random student that I dont know..
thank you

From what I have seen R.As get knocks on their doors at all hours of the day and night and sometimes they have people come in to discuss certain disputes with roomates. So it could get annoying for you.

Bad, bad idea. You wouldn't be able to break any rules, have booze, et cetera. It'd suck, basically.

Your RA's have roommates? Here, they get their own room with bathrooom etc. I wouldn't take it, personally, since it'd just turn out to be an annoyance.

stay away from the RA... not only will you not be able to take liberties with the rules, but people will be knocking on your door for the RA when they get locked out or whatever.

basically, there's no advantage to living with an RA.

At my school, the RAs in the dorms get singles, but if they're in the apartment dorms or something, they have to have roommates.

I'll agree, I wouldn't live with an RA I didn't know. I live by the rules, but still. I think you're better off living with a random student you don't know because they'll at least be your age. In living with an RA you'll have to overcome the additional problem of living with a student who is an upperclassmen who has already established a group of friends. At least if you live with a random student you can become friends with them and their group of friends.

While everyone else here has given you good reasons, I'm going to be the "devil's advocate" here and say that it really does depend on a few things!

I don't know about your school's RA selection process, but here the RA position is extremely selective and generally picks students who are incredibly easy to get along with and incredibly respectful and amicable toward others (especially their roommates), so unless you plan on breaking university policies, you might actually be safer with an RA you don't know than another student you don't know (especially a freshmen you don't know who may not have very good roommate skills or respect).
On the other hand, I kind of wonder why this RA does not already have an RAR (Resident Advisor's Roommate).
Here at least, almost the moment RA selections were announced students were asking to be their friends' RARs! It's always interesting.

Good luck with that choice!
