Resident Hall Question

Hi, I read online that Roosevelt Hall is exclusively for Honors college students. For those who attend SUNY Buffalo, just how nice is Roosevelt Hall and what greater benefits does it offer than a regular resident hall for normal undergraduates and is staying in Roosevelt hall worth it?

Roosevelt Hall, and all of the Governors Complex isn’t really that nice. I preferred both Ellicott and Goodyear to it. I don’t believe that there are any other benefits other than the fact that you are living with other Honors kids, which may or may not be what you want.

IIRC, there are more bathrooms but the double rooms are actually smaller than most of those in Ellicott. The other “amenities” were about the same (and I say that with tongue in cheek…the dorms, while adequate, are not what most students would term as “nice” except perhaps for the new sophomore dorm).

In terms of bathrooms per person (for freshmen), Goodyear leads the pack (4 people/bathroom), then Governors, and then Ellicott.

Lived there for my freshman year…it was small, and old, but still worth it. Very relaxed atmosphere. Bathrooms were only shared by 8 people, and had 2 toilets/sinks/showers, and were cleaned 3 times per week.

Real advantage was honors housing though.

Our Honors Student was on the fence after being admitted to Honors and finding out the differences. There are comments on this board and others about the ability to study better at Governors, about the social life differences, etc. We know students in all dorms and can tell you they are all fine. After 2 years in Governors, we feel we made the best choice. A little less busy, a little better location to the academic spine. A quieter atmosphere full of great friends, etc. There are no right or wrong choices. The differences aren’t all that dramatic.

^^Closer to the spine is awesome in the winter. Never have to spend very long outside.
